First open singles
Umina Bowling Club has staged its first open singles event in which men and women competed against each other in the race to reach 21 points.
After six knockout rounds, Umina Club's singles Champion Allan Rhodes, who has won four men's titles in the last five years, won the competition.
The competition had both sexes playing through the quarters and the semis, but it was Bob Penson that won against the last female player, Patricia Neal, leaving himself and Allan Rhodes still in the competition.
Men's club publicity officer Mr Ian Jarratt said the reception and interest of this inaugural event indicated that it would not be the last and that similar open events could become a regular occurrence.
