Five receive awards for excellence

Five members of the community received awards for their outstanding commitment to excellence, at Rotary Woy Woy's annual Vocational Awards night.

The club's Community Service Award recipient was Mr Tim Tierney, a 30-year employee with Gosford Council Library Services.

Mr Tierney received his award for work with both soccer and cricket clubs and for having given generously to their fundraising pursuits.

Recipients of the club's Pride of Workmanship awards were Mr Troy Dove, Ms Di Matthews, Mr Kris Charles and Ms Jess Thomas.

Mr Dove, who worked in hospitality at Everglades Country Club, received his award for his positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to provide exceptional service to customers.

Ms Matthews, a senior employee at Chemist Outlet, Umina, received her award for her expertise and treating customers with the utmost respect and courtesy.

Mr Kris Charles, manager at K-Mart Tyre and Auto Service, Umina, won his award for his excellent manner, the respect he shows to his mechanics and providing a service above expectations.

Ms Jess Thomas, director of lifesaving at Umina SLSC, received the Youth Encouragement Award for her passionate, long-time commitment to lifesaving, both as a surf educator and facilitator of development programs.

Rotary Woy Woy's vocational director, Mr Vic Deeble said: "The award scheme has at its theme Do it Once, Do it Well - Build a Better Australia'.

"It is not a competition and there are no winners in the strict sense of the word.

"But we regard all the awardees as winners having achieved an overall high personal standard of work," he said.

"It was a pleasure to recognize their efforts."
