Cupcake challenge for Cancer Council

Sandra's Cupcake Challenge will be held at the Peninsula Community Centre on Thursday, May 25.

The challenge will be held as part of the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea, in honour of Ms Sandra McArtney, who lost her battle with cancer in October 2014.

Ms McArtney, who had a passion for baking, worked as a volunteer with Coast Community Connections for two years.

The event will help raise funds for the Cancer Council who will use the funds for cancer research, support services prevention and advocacy.

The Cupcake Challenge has three age categories, to encourage primary school children, high school students and adults to participate in the hand-made or packet based categories.

Locally in the last two years, the Cancer Council has supported almost 3000 patients with transport via the Shirley Shuttle and assisted almost 200 patients with in home support across the Central Coast.

Coast Community Connections acting chief Ms Jenni Allan said the Challenge was a fun way for locals to support the Cancer Council and to recognise and assist the many people who are diagnosed with cancer each day.

"Last year our Morning Tea event raised more than $5500 and we look forward to hopefully breaking this record at our event this year," Ms Allan said.
