Southern and Ettalong United defeats Terrigal 5-2

Southern and Ettalong United defeated last year's premiers Terrigal 5-2 at Duffys Road in round five of Central Coast Premier League soccer competition played on Sunday, May 7.

The game looked evenly set for the first 15 minutes as both teams created good chances early on, with Terrigal missing a clear-cut chance early in the contest.

In the 39th minute, Southern took the lead after a good sequence of passing between Ryan Brown and Keith Gumbs which unlocked the Terrigal defence.

Right on half time, Gumbs made it 2-0 when he latched onto a through ball from central defender Wyatt Elliott to round the Terrigal keeper.

Terrigal started the second half a little better but once again were caught on the break and committed a foul on Calvin Edwards in the box to allow Southern Ettalong to go 3-0 up.

Terrigal managed to pull one back through Aidan Bastick who found the back of the net after a scramble in the box.

Again, in the 80th minute, it was Calvin Edwards who rounded the Terrigal defence and found Matt Caisley unmarked on the back post to make it 4-1.

Terrigal was able to bounce back in the 83rd minute when Max Vegter scored to make it 4-2.

Just before the final whistle, Southern continued to put the Terrigal defence under pressure when a back pass bounced over their keeper's foot, resulting in an own goal to make the final score 5-2.

Match official was Hugo Fonseca.

In the same round, Woy Woy drew with ladder-leader Kanwal, 3-all.

Kanwal kicked the first goal after a defensive lapse saw the Roosters bring down Logan Moore inside their box and Kanwal were awarded a penalty.

Woy Woy slowly worked its way back and after 20 minutes was awarded a penalty.

Nathan Baker made no mistake and gave Woy Woy a crucial equaliser.

Five minutes later, Kanwal's Rory Rizzi would feed the ball to Logan Moore who finished into the bottom left corner to reinstate the Bulls' lead to 2-1.

Kanwal would continue to dominate possession for most of the first half, and just before halftime Brad Porter with a well-taken strike saw Kanwal head into the break with a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Kanwal was its own worst enemy in the second half.

Keeper Kurtis Mahon gave away a penalty within a few minutes of restarting, compounding the problem by getting himself sent off.

Again, Nathan Baker converted the penalty for Woy Woy.

Their advantage was rewarded in the 65th minute with a Woy Woy cross being nicely finished by Matthew Jacobsen to make the score 3-3, with plenty of time still left on the clock.

In another twist to the game, in the 81st minute, Woy Woy was also reduced to 10 men.

It was an entertaining last 10 minutes, with both sides going all out for the win.
