Students visit wildlife park

Nine students of Brisbane Water Secondary College have visited a local wildlife park.

The Central Coast Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park is home to a variety of Australian native animals, many roaming freely offering the chance to walk right up to them in their natural habitat.

"The highlight of the ranger-led tour was the hands-on learning about local Aboriginal culture and visiting pre-historic sites giving the students an insight into Darkinjung culture," said school career adviser Mr Rob Harwood.

"The bush tucker and medicine tour in the natural bushland provided an insight into survival in the outback".

The excursion was accompanied by seven mentors from the Plan-it-Youth mentoring program, a service for young people who are unsure about their future job opportunities and who may need extra support in the transition from school to work, or onto further education.

Mentors are trained volunteers who assist the student to identify their skills, interests, strengths, abilities and explore career options.
