More trees needed for liveability, says shade tree group
The Grow Urban Shade Trees group has planted a grevillea for a resident wanting a small, fast-growing tree suitable under wires and for year-round bird feasting.
"The photo shows how bare our streets are and how many more trees are needed to reduce the extreme summer temperatures," said group member Ms Jen Wilder.
"The Peninsula has canopy coverage well below 10 per cent.
"This is unacceptable.
"Let's get closer to that 40 per cent minimum canopy target that experts recommend for a liveable urban environment."
