Motor bike and shopping trolleys pulled from under jetty

A motor bike, bicycles and scooters, shopping trollies, car tyres and metal signage has been pulled from beneath the Ettalong public jetty.

A team from Woy Woy's Scuba Gym worked with Clean4Shore to retrieve the rubbish.

They went into action from the Clean4shore barge.

"Six divers and support staff and community volunteers gathered 900 kilos of metal and three full bags of beer bottles, soft and hard plastics," said Clean4Shore co-ordinator Mr Graham Johnston.

"The strong current and the early bitterly cold weather did not make for a comfortable morning, yet the clear water and abundance of rubbish presented a challenge well worth attempting.

"Heavy items were attached with a tow rope with locals keen to assist in hauling the barnacle covered items out of the water.

"The motor bike was attached to the barge, shunted into shallow water then lifted on board.

"This is the third trip to this public jetty with over three tonne now removed, with the divers keen to continue the clean-up.

"An ugly heavy load deposited was at Woy Woy tip."
