Folk club farewells two of its founders

The Troubadour Folk Club has farewelled two of its founders, Marilyn and Frank Russell, who are leaving for Queensland.

Club president Mr Michael Fine said: "They founded the Troubadour club with Cec Bucello more than 16 years ago.'

He said the farewell, held at the club's February 27 meeting, was "sad and very heartfelt".

"They gave us one of their great performances last night which included two, excellent yodelling songs," Mr Fine said.

"Frank revealed himself as one of the great romantics, as he played the song he wrote for Marilyn, Two Hearts, when they married.

"Although there were few dry eyes left in the house, things brightened up with the presentation of our farewell gifts, cards and tributes.

"Their farewell was brought to a fitting conclusion with Frank and Marilyn leading the Troubadour hall in a hearty rendition of Michael O'Rourke's, Sing Us a Song Boys."
