Private hospital to specialise in rehabilitation

Brisbane Waters Private Hospital at Woy Woy has added new rehabilitation services to its specialties, according to CEO Ms Kathy Beverley.

The expanded service will provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, dietetics, hydrotherapy, speech pathology and discharge planning to the growing population of the Peninsula and entire Central Coast region.

"We have seen a growing demand for acute neurological rehabilitation from trauma, brain injuries and stroke as well as increased demand for our orthopaedic and reconditioning programs," said Ms Beverley.

"Brisbane Waters Private Hospital's new rehabilitation services provides more beds to cater for a greater number of individuals."

Director of clinical services Ms Patrice Blume said rehabilitation services could help all post-surgical patients and the elderly.

"Rehabilitation can help post-surgical patients, sufferers of stroke and other neurological disorders help to regain everyday skills that they may struggle with or have lost due to illness or injury.

"We believe that most patients can benefit from rehabilitation and we strongly encourage all Central Coast residents who have seen a decline in their mobility or skills to make contact with their GP to discuss the benefits of rehabilitation on the Peninsula or call Brisbane Waters Private Hospital directly," said Ms Beverley.

Brisbane Waters Private Hospital's specialisations will continue to be rehabilitation and medial surgery, and it offers the only private mental health in-patient facility on the Central Coast.
