Shocked to see state of beach
As a regular visitor to Ettalong over the past 20 years, I was shocked to see the state of the beach on my visit in January.
I have watched the wonderful work done in the past 10 years or so, erosion prevention with the placement of sandstone blocks, dredging the bay to replenish sand on the beach, and improvement to the footpath and amenities on the way to Umina Beach.
But this time for some reason, the sandstone blocks have been removed and there were piles of stones and rocks along the beach - near the Lance Webb reserve.
It looked as though a landslide had happened.
This made walking along the beach hazardous and swimming dangerous as it was impossible to see the bricks, stones and rocks along the shoreline.
Because of this I chose not to swim - a first in many visits to the area.
I hope that this is just a temporary situation and the rocks and bricks on the shoreline are to be removed as visitors to the area, and local residents, should be able to use and enjoy the beach safely.
