Bishop leads mass for school's 100th anniversary

St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School celebrated its 100th anniversary on June 22 with a mass led by Bishop Anthony Randazzo of the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay.

Approximately 750 people, including students, attended the school's centenary celebrations at Dulkara Rd in Woy Woy.

The day opened with an acknowledgement of country and principal's address, followed by the formal mass celebration.

There was a band performance, memorabilia, photo displays, speeches in the school's library, and a catered lunch for all in attendance.

St John the Baptist Church was first used as a school in 1922.

Celebrations have occurred since last year, culminating in the official mass and celebration.

Students were also invited to dress up as 100-year-olds on the last day of school last Friday, to celebrate the school's 100th birthday.

"We are filled with gratitude and pride after the 100 years' celebration," said school principal Ms Nicole Davies.

"Our deepest appreciation goes to the countless number of teachers, principals, nuns, staff, parishioners, parents, students, and families that have played a role in shaping the thriving school you see today.

"We know in our hearts St John the Baptist will stand strong in the Woy Woy Peninsula community well into the future."

Parent and Parish Community member Ms Jane Rutherford said: "It was an honour to be a part of today's celebrations.

"It sure brought back some memories for many of the teachers, principals, students and parents who were in attendance, who have helped shape this strong school community over the past 100 years."

More information about the school's history can be found at its website at https://www.sjbwwdbb.catholic.edu.au/100years/

The school is currently open for enrolments across all grades.
