Crime prevention officer addresses CWA and Rotary
NSW Police crime prevention officer Senior Constable Rachel Scott from Brisbane Water Local Area Command has spoken at the Woy Woy branch of the Country Women's Association and at the Rotary Club of Brisbane Water recently.
CWA branch president Ms Margy Ure said: "Her talk covered many topics.
"She brought with her a lot of valuable information and next of kin forms that she encourages all people living on their own to fill out and drop back to their local police station.
"Other topics discussed were sexting and its prevalence among young boys, and cat-fishing older people into handing over money.
"Cat-fishing is a deceptive activity in which a person creates a fictional persona or fake identity usually targeting a specific victim.
"The practice may be used for financial gain, to compromise a victim in some way, to circumvent a legal enforcement, as a way to intentionally upset a victim, or for the perpetrator's enjoyment.
"Also discussed was the blocking of scam numbers and email addresses.
"All members took away some great resource material and valuable information."
Rotary club president Mr Mitchell Gordon said: "Our club enjoyed an informative talk on crime trends."
