The reward of removing a weed
Ask a dunecare volunteer with the Umina Community Group about the rewards of their work and they may well show you a turkey rhubarb plant removed complete with tubers.
One of the group's volunteers recently spent half an hour under a wattle following the long roots of this weed (acetosa sagittata) to dig up the tubers from which it sprouts.
Central Coast Council has provided protective gear including shirts to the group so they can work safely on the dunes.
The group is currently seeking more volunteers for its Wednesday morning sessions.
