Arboretum founding member dies

The Pearl Beach Arboretum committee has announced the death of a founding member of the arboretum at the age of 99.

"William Stuart 'Bill' Hawthorne passed away on March 25, aged 99 years, after a short illness," said arboretum secretary Ms Mary Knaggs.

"Bill was a founding member and life member of the Crommelin Native Arboretum at Pearl Beach.

"He was one of the original 'Arbo boys' who met every Thursday to work in the Arboretum, always followed by a cuppa and a chat.

"Bill and his wife Mary were long time residents of Pearl Beach."

"He was devoted husband of Mary (deceased), father of Dianne, Evan, Neil and Louise, grandfather of Beccy and great-grandfather of Milan.

"He was generous, charming, kind and devoted."
